Mariah Carey launches Irish Cream liqueur brand Black Irish
Legendary singer Mariah Carey has announced the launch of her very own Irish liqueur brand, Black Irish, the name of which pays homage to her mixed heritage.
The never-ending wave of celebrity drinks brands is showing no signs of crashing against the rocks anytime soon, with the rich and famous practically jockeying for column inches to announce their latest boozy venture.
Just recently, Kendall Jenner’s 818 Tequila launched to much fanfare and quite astonishing early success, and now Mariah Carey is dipping her toe into the booze industry for the second time with the launch of her Black Irish liqueur brand.
Carey took to Instagram to share the news of the drink’s launch with an image of herself lying on the beach in a gold dress, with a bottle of the liqueur standing in front of her.
“Introducing Two years in the making. Truly a cause for celebration!!!” She wrote.

Speaking about her heritage in a 2009 interview, Carey stated:
“It’s, like, my mother’s white – she’s so Irish, she loves Ireland, she’s like, yay, Ireland! Waving the flag and singing When Irish Eyes Are Smiling. And that’s great. I appreciate that and respect it.
“But there’s a whole other side of me that makes me who I am and makes people uncomfortable. My father identified as a black man. No one asked him because he was clearly black. But people always ask me. If we were together, people would look at us in a really strange way. It sucked. As a little girl, I had blond hair, and they’d look at me, look at him, and be disgusted.”
Her parents separated when she was three-years-old.
Carey had a brief involvement in the drinks industry previously, endorsing Champagne brand Angel.
At the time Guardian critic Stuart Heritage wrote about how Mariah, announcing the launch of her new brainchild, “updated her Twitter feed – usually home to such breathtaking insights as, “Test your knowledge of MC’s lyrics by singing along to her songs, get the Mariah Carey-oke LyrIQ iPhone App” – with the stark cry: “ANGEL CHAMPAGNE (ROSE) by MC coming soon!”
Black Irish is available now in three flavours: Original Irish Cream, Salted Caramel, and White Chocolate.
