You can now buy a Pink Gordon’s gin cake from Asda

Asda has become the first supermarket to sell a branded pink gin cake, and it’s expected to be a sell-out success.

In a cruel world of supermarket cake wars that has seen caterpillar pitted again caterpillar, it’s nice to finally have some good news, and what could be better than a cake infused with one of the nation’s favourite pink gins?

Gordon’s has branched out into the baked goods world for the first time with the launch of a bubblegum-hued triumph based on its popular Premium Pink Gin.

The company has teamed up with supermarket Asda to push the indulgent treat out to consumers, and it looks every bit as beautiful as it no doubt tastes.

Priced at £12, the millennial-pink layer cake is made up of pink and white sponge, with an oozy raspberry jam filling and is topped with Gordon’s Premium Pink flavoured icing, edible sugar pearls and dried raspberries.

Leading cake manufacturer Finsbury Food Group is responsible for bringing the gin-laced creation to life, having worked previously with other Diageo-owned brands to successfully launch alcohol-infused cakes including the Wimbledon-inspired Baileys’ Strawberries & Cream.

A Diageo spokesperson said: “At Gordon’s, we invest heavily in product innovation and following the hugely successful launch of our Premium Pink Gin in 2017, we wanted to create something really different and special for our customers. There was no better choice than partnering with Finsbury to make our cake dreams a reality.”

Emma Hamilton of Finsbury Food Group, hopes the collaboration with Gordon’s will be “the first of many”. With the eponymous gin brand’s current collection featuring flavours such as Sicilian Lemon, Sloe Gin and Gordon’s with a spot of Elderflower, we can see a commercial cake series in the making. It might even be enough to trigger a truce between warring caterpillars Colin and Cuthbert.

Gordon’s Premium Pink Cake is available to buy online and in stores at Asda now, and it will also be stocked at Tesco from September 6.
