Zachys Hong Kong fine wine auction achieves HK$49.6m

Hosted on 25-26 June by Zachys Hong Kong, The Crown Collection and Fine & Rare Wines and Spirits sales realised a total of HK$49.6 million.

The two days of auctions presented in a total of almost 700 lots featuring legendary bottles such as 1982 Château Lafite Rothschild, 2000 Château Mouton Rothschild, and DRC in original wooden case.

The event attracted aggressive bidding parties in Beijing and Hong Kong. The auction house’s focus on provenance and condition has been reassuring to buyers and resulted in significant prices realised.

The bids came in via absentee bids, online and on the phone for First Growth Bordeaux, Burgundy, Champagne and rare Japanese Whiskies. It proved that the continuing demand for finest and rarest wines and spirits with impeccable provenance remains strong.

Highlights included very rare 9 bottles of Romanee Conti Domaine de la Romanée Conti 2000, which was sold HK$1,058,250, ten very rare bottles of Karuizawa Samurai 30-Year-Old Single Cask (700ML), which realised HK$809,250, a rare 12- pack original carton of Corton Charlemagne Coche-Dury 2015 which realised HK$547,800 and a rare 12-pack original wood case of Latour 1961 realised HK$522,900. Out of the top ten lots five came from Burgundy, four came from Bordeaux and one lot came from Japan.

As the auction house reveals, in a recent analysis of a portfolio of frequently sold wine, prices have been stronger in Q1 & Q2 2021 than in 2020. They are already filling September 2021 auctions in Hong Kong and New York.

Terrence Tang, Zachys head of Asia said: “Zachys continues a very busy June, achieving strong results in Q2 2021! Aggressive absentee bids, online bids and telephone bids came in for renown single-owner collections The Crown Collection, Pioneers V, The Executive Cellar XV and others. Impeccable provenance is paramount when it comes to fine and rare wines and spirits.

“Thank you to all of our fantastic clients who joined us online, over the phone and via absentee bids from Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, Japan, Europe and the United States. From the team in NYC staying up at 5am to auctioneer, to our active bidding parties in Beijing and Hong Kong! Tune in to Treasures from the Estate of Tawfiq Khoury auction in New York on 30 June.”
