Matthew Clark Bibendum suffers cyber attack

Leading UK drinks distributor Matthew Clark Bibendum has become the latest casualty of cyber warfare after an unknown hacker attacked the businesses’ IT infrastructure.

On 19 April, the distributor and wholesaler announced that an unknown hacker had attacked the businesses’ IT infrastructure. As a result, the company was forced to enact a cyber-security response plan and shut down all of its IT systems.

According to a statement issued by Matthew Clark Bibendum, “A leading forensic information technology firm and legal counsel have been engaged to assist us investigate the incident and restore our IT systems as quickly and as safely as possible.”

Yesterday (4 May) the company posted an update on the company website. “We have made good progress in carefully restoring our IT systems and anticipate that all customer ordering interfaces will be restored by Monday 10 May.

“Our immediate priority continues to be meeting the needs of our customers by processing and delivering all orders as quickly as possible during a period of exceptional industry demand. We are very grateful for your patience and understanding at this time.”

Cyber-security issues are becoming a major concern for UK businesses. In June 2018, British Airways suffered an online attack that compromised the credit card details of more than 380,000 of its customers.
