Man’s beers with friends at the pub leads to shock cancer diagnosis

A Melbourne man was left shocked as he learned that he had cancer after he spent an evening at the pub enjoying beers with friends, before being left in excruciating pain.

In the lead-up to Christmas, Mark Osler was enjoying an evening at the pub with a few beers and friends.

“One of the guys was leaving and walked past me and gave me a bit of a sidekick to the backside as he left just to say, ‘see you later’, and it started from there,” he told 9News.

After being left in excruciating pain as a result of the seemingly innocuous moment, the 59-year-old’s chiropractor encouraged him to go for an X-ray.

“I walked in there thinking I was going walk out with either a fracture or a bruised coccyx,” he said.

“It absolutely floored me, and I was sort of numb for about two days … I just couldn’t comprehend what I’d been told.”

Mr Osler was told in mid-January that he had prostate cancer that had spread to his spine. He is currently undergoing chemotherapy and will later start radiation. He says he wants other men to learn from his experience and get checked by their GP twice a year.
