Boissenot and Berrouet to blend Lafon-Rochet 2020
Top Bordeaux consultants Jean-Claude Berrouet and Eric Boissenot have joined forces to create the 2020 blend for St. Estèphe fourth growth Château Lafon-Rochet.
Marking the first time the consultants have worked together on a blend, the duo combine Left and Right Bank expertise, with Berrouet known for his mastery of Merlot at Petrus and Boissenot famed for his guidance at top Medoc châteaux.
Jean-Claude Berrouet has worked as Lafon-Rochet’s consultant since 2012.
“We admire the quality of the tannins present in the wines that Jean-Claude consults on, as well as his expertise with grapes coming from clay soils.
“With almost half of our estate based on clay, and the other half on dry deep gravely soils, it was logical to combine Jean-Claude’s work with that of Eric Boissenot,” said Lafon-Rochet’s director, Basile Tesseron.
“With Eric’s specialism in the Médoc, it is with pride that we will present our 60th vintage in the upcoming months with contributions from both experts for the first time.
“We have had great pleasure making and blending the 2020 vintage together, and I have faith that this pleasure will rise from the glass when people taste it,” he added.
Since taking over the running of the estate in 2007, Tesseron has overseen the construction of two new cellars, extensive replanting and a dedicated biodiversity programme. He has also been gradually incorporating more Merlot into the blend.
Situated in the south of St. Estèphe, Lafon-Rochet has been in the Tesseron family since 1959. The estate has a reputation for producing wines with balanced structure and elegance.
