Seattle Ferris wheel offers socially distanced four-course meal

The Seattle Great Wheel has teamed up with a local restaurant to offer diners a socially distanced meal with customers served one course per rotation.

As reported by Kiro 7, the Covid appropriate private dining experience is being served up by The Fisherman’s Restaurant and Bar, which is located next to the Ferris wheel.

Diners can book a reservation using Resy and the experience includes a four-course set menu which includes prawn cocktail, Caesar salad, grilled salmon, vegetables and pilaf rice and chocolate pot de crème for dessert.

Each gondola seats a maximum of four people, with reservations available between 5pm and 6:30pm. Vegetarian options are available and diners can also pre-order their wine before the meal.

Customers are served one course per rotation of the wheel, which at its peak reaches 175ft (53m), according to the BBC.

The lofty US$152 (£110) per person price tag includes the meal, a parking voucher, ride tax and service charge.

Last year Michelin-starred Hungarian restaurant Costes also staged a similar one-off event on board the Budapest Eye Ferris wheel, while the Cohn Restaurant Group also proposed similar plans in San Diego, although this has since been abandoned.

Meanwhile a restaurant in Edinburgh unveiled rather less lofty ambitions last year. McLarens on the Corner, which is currently operating as a takeaway business, imported six cable car gondolas from the French Alps to help enforce social distancing when it is allowed to reopen for dine-in customers.
