The Rock partners with Molson Coors on energy drink
Wrestler-turned-actor Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has partnered with Molson Coors to create a non-alcoholic energy drink called Zoa, which is due to go on sale in March.
Taking 18 months to develop, Zoa is a caffeinated drink, which Molson Coors says is made from green tea and unroasted coffee beans.
In terms of flavour, the energy drink is packed with ingredients such as acerola cherry, turmeric and camu camu, a cherry-like berry native to the Amazon rainforest.
This isn’t Johnson’s drinks industry debut – he is also the founder of a small-batch Tequila brand Teremana, which is on track to sell 300,000 nine litre cases in its first year.
Keen to expand beyond beer, Zoa marks Molson Coors’ entry into the energy drink arena.
“The energy drinks category is huge, and it’s growing. And it is a key area of focus for our nonalcohol business this year,” said Marlon Hernandez, senior director of Molson Coors’ non-alcoholic business, in a post on the company’s blog.
Beside its collaboration with The Rock, Molson Coors is working to create other non-alcoholic drinks including ones made with CBD.
