Château du Tertre sold
AJ Domaines has announced the sale of Margaux estate Château du Tertre with the Helfrich family, founders of Les Grands Chais de France, set to take over winemaking operations at the estate.
The property is believed to have been acquired by a French insurance group.
Financial details of the sale were not disclosed, du Tertre was previously owned by the Jelgersma family which also owns Château Giscours also in Margaux and Caiarossa in Italy.
Alexander van Beek, managing director of the three properties, commented: “Château du Tertre is an estate with magnificent potential. The Albada Jelgersma family wants it to stand on his own two feet from now on, for the good of the estate and that of its teams. A new chapter has begun!”
The family said in a statement that the sale is part of a, “strategic reorientation which has decided to focus on its ambitious and demanding project at Château Giscours, as well as on its Tuscan estate, Caiarossa, while maintaining the agility necessary to seize opportunities in other terroirs and other continents”.
The Jelgersma family said in a statement that it was sure the Helfrich family would bring all its “skills” and “passion” to continue the development of the estate.
