Top London restaurants delivering during lockdown

If you’re keen to get your fried chicken or sushi fix during lockdown fear not, these top London restaurants are open for business and will deliver to your door.

Hide

Delivering within a seven-mile radius of the Mayfair mothership, Hide at Home offers the elegance and refinement of Ollie Dabbous’ food from the comfort of your living room. Among the dishes on offer on its £59, three-course set menu this coming weekend are the wonderfully autumnal sounding pumpkin orzo with sage butter and toasted hazelnuts; the unashamedly decadent grilled lobster with masala butter and French fries; and the seriously retro quince and blackberry trifle with honey and nutmeg custard.

Davies and Brook

Back by popular demand, Swiss-born, New York-based chef Daniel Humm will be serving up more piping-hot, delicately spiced mounds of his C.F.C (Claridge’s Fried Chicken) during lockdown 2.0 from his London outpost Davies and Brook in Mayfair. Each £45 order of fried chicken comes with a selection of sides, including broad bean hummus with pickled beets, potato salad and house pickles. He’s even thrown in a pear and white chocolate crumble for pudding.

New for this lockdown, Humm will also be whipping up his whole roast chickens to go – a dish inspired by his mother. Priced at £145 a pop, each bird is generously stuffed with brioche, black truffle and foie gras and comes with Parmesan and Gruyère gratin, making it the ultimate in Sunday lunch decadence.

Hoppers

If Sri Lankan pancakes are your thing then when not give Hoppers a bell. The menu is bursting with aromatic treats, from chilli paneer and south Indian stir fried beef to sweet potato and spinach kari and lamb kothu roti. Not to be missed are the moreish mutton rolls packed with slow-cooked mutton and potatoes encased in a crispy golden Panko breadcrumb coating, which would pair perfectly with a bottle of Hoppers Toddy Ale, a Sri Lankan pale ale finished with coconut.

Nobu

Once the glittering epicentre of hedonistic London living, those keen to relive the good old days can still get their sushi and sashimi fix from Japanese-Peruvian fusion spot Nobu, who put rock shrimp tempura and yellowtail sashimi with jalapeño on the culinary map. Among the dishes on their delivery menu are classics like silky salmon sashimi, Nobu Matsuhisa’s signature black cod with sweet miso, and crispy rice with spicy tuna.

Gymkhana

JKS Restaurants has proved itself to be one of the most nimble and quick to adapt groups within the capital, offering deliveries, takeaways, meal kits from most of its venues, including one of the jewels in its crown – the Michelin-starred Gymkhana in Mayfair, which has risen phoenix like after a recent fire and is very much back in business. Delivering within an eight-mile radius of the restaurant, many of the venues most-loved dishes are available to go, from aloo chaat and goat keema pao to crispy fried prawns with mint chutney, chicken butter masala and lamb shank roganjosh with chilli garlic naan. You can also get your hands on a selection of meal kits via its online shop, Ambassador General Store.

Mac + Wild

If you’re in the mood for a Highland fling, then why not give Scottish specialist Mac + Wild a whirl. Patty fanatics will fall for its signature burger, the Veni-Moo, voted the UK’s best burger in 2016. It’s a marvellous, melting thing of beauty that sees a beef and venison patty piled on top of one another and oozing with gooey cheese, creamy béarnaise, and caramelised onions.

If you’re feeling really dirty then pair it with a side of haggis mac n cheese but be prepared for the carb coma afterwards… Those keen to cook up some of the venue’s classics can snap up a ‘big meat box’ on their online store, which includes 6 week dry age beef fillet steaks, Highland hill lamb chops and venison haggis.

Bao

While the restaurants may be shuttered, the team at steamed bun specialist Bao have pivoted to takeaway via a home delivery service called Rice Error. As the name suggests, rice is the order of the day, and fans of the venue can get their hands on a selection of rice boxes rammed with cha shao pork belly, prawn egg fried rice, 40-day aged black pepper beef, roasted chilli chicken and mapo tofu omelettes, delivered to their door. We like the sound of the buckets of Taiwanese fried chicken served with sweet potato fries topped off with a Horlicks ice cream tub.

Santa Maria Pizzeria

One of the capital’s finest pizza purveyors, Santa Maria in Ealing, is doing a roaring trade on deliveries both at is west London flagship and at sister sites in Chelsea and Notting Hill. Specialising in wood-fired Neapolitan pizzas, purists will want to go for the classic Santa Margherita, while diners of a more daring persuasion may be tempted by the likes of the salami and chill-flecked Santa Caterina, or the San Rocco, topped with burrata, Pecorino, roasted aubergines and rocket.

Benares

It’s not only casual dining venues that have pivoted to takeaways – fine dining stalwart Benares in Mayfair is also delivering during lockdown 2.0, offering Indian classics like baked Malabar scallops in a coconut curry sauce; paneer tikka with quince and lime murraba; tandoori spiced baby poussin in a butter sauce with a lassi dressing; and Kashmiri chilli-marinated lamb cutlets with spiced spinach purée and garlic naan. For those in the mood for something special, there’s a six-course tasting menu on offer too priced at £98 per person.

Casa do Frango

Who needs Nandos when you’ve got Casa do Frango? The Portuguese piri-piri chicken specialist in London Bridge is still engaging in fowl play during lockdown, serving up beloved dishes like its half piri-piri and lemon and garlic chickens with African rice, casa slaw, batatas fritas and tomato, green pepper and cucumber salads directly to your door. We love the sound of the piri-piri garlic prawns and the maple-glazed charred cauliflower served with a coriander and pistachio yoghurt. Be sure to leave room for a custard tart or two to finish.
