Hakkasan Shanghai reopens at old site

Six months after its abrupt and apparently final closure in April, the Shanghai outpost of Hakkasan is now back in business again at the same site.

The Shanghai branch of the international Cantonese restaurant brand announced its permanent closure this April due to the catastrophic impact brought on by Covid-19.

As economic activity, including the catering business, started to recover from the pandemic in the following months, however, rumours began circulating in July that the restaurant would re-open again. And indeed the outlet was reopened on 11 October during Golden Week.

Based in the same location at the iconic landmark of Bund 18, Hakkasan Shanghai has reopened with new owners, but with the same management as before. All the signature dishes will remain, while the culinary team has expanded the menu. As for the cocktail list, it is reported that the bartending team is incorporating more Chinese elements to it, for example, using Chinese liquors, such as baijiu and huangjiu. Before the reopening, the restaurant also had a minor facelift, refurbishment of its furniture and reorganisation of the layout.

The Hakkasan Group was founded in 2001 in London, with the Shanghai outpost opening its doors in 2014. The group is now solely owned by Alliance International Investments LLC, an investment company based out of Abu Dhabi.
