Cameron Diaz believes in mood and wine matching
While she’s a keen home cook, Hollywood actor Cameron Diaz believes mood and wine matching is becoming more important than food and wine pairing.

Having recently added a Rhône red to her ‘clean’ wine range, Diaz said: “Avaline wines are meant to be everyday wines, no matter the season.
“Our red is light enough to enjoy in warm weather, but has enough body to cosy up with on a winter night. We know that’s how people drink now. It’s not really based on seasons or meals, it’s based on mood,” she said.
Diaz will be promoting Avaline Red via home cooking demos on social media. Priced at $US24, Avaline Red has gone on sale on the Avaline website and at select retailers across the US following demand for a red wine within the range.
The 14.5% ABV non-vintage red is made from a blend of organically grown Grenache and Syrah from the Rhône. It is described as “light to medium-bodied, with bright red fruit and delicate aromas that are balanced by a touch of spice”.
“It pairs delightfully with a bowl of cheesy pasta, marathons of your favourite show or a bite of salty dark chocolate after your favourite meal,” the brand said.
Since Avaline launched in July over 120,000 bottles have been sold. In addition to the red the Avaline range includes a Spanish white blend of organically grown Macabeo, Malvasia and Xarel·lo from Penedès; and a Provence rosé made from organically farmed Cinsault, Grenache, Cabernet, Syrah and Caladoc.
None of the wines in the range are made with animal by-products or concentrates. The Avaline Red label contains nutritional information, and the brand is planning to add an ingredient list to its labels next year for added transparency.
“With Avaline our mission is to make this level of ingredient and nutritional transparency the norm.
“We started Avaline because we felt this need ourselves. We have seen that this customer who is seeking ‘clean’ in other categories like food and beauty products, is in fact asking for clean wine,” Avaline’s co-founder, Katherine Power said.
