Organic Wine Week kicks off in New Zealand

New Zealand’s third annual Organic Wine Week, organised by Organic Winegrowers NZ, kicks off this week with a series of tastings and seminars.

Due to the global pandemic, a number of the events will take place virtually, including a series of seminars hosted by Dr Jamie Goode.

Goode will host seminars on Instagram Live on Monday 21, Tuesday 22 and Thursday 24 September at 8pm (GMT) with Claire Mulholland of Burn Cottage, Clive Dougall, OWNZ chair and co-owner of Deep Down Wines, and James Millton of Millton Vineyards to discuss organics and biodynamics in New Zealand.

On Wednesday 23 September New Zealand Winegrowers will host an online webniar on dispelling the myths surrounding organic wine and examining how sustainability, organics, biodynamics and natural wine all fit together.

“Organic Wine Week is a chance to communicate to the world everything there is to know about organic winegrowing, from certification to the vineyard, the winery and the final product, illustrating how organic farming is beneficial at every stage,” New Zealand Winegrowers said in a statement.

“People want to know what they are consuming, and that the product they are choosing has been made with little to no negative impact on the environment. Organic Wine Week works to dispel the myths and keep consumers informed about all things organic,” Clive Dougall, chair of OWNZ, added.

Organic wine is growing in popularity all over the world. According to the IWSR, by 2022 around 10% of all wine sold in the UK will be organic.
