Mionetto launches rosé Prosecco
Sparkling wine producer Henkell Freixenet has launched its first rose Prosecco DOC in anticipation of Italy’s new law on pink fizz coming into effect.
The wine, which is also said to be vegan-friendly. will be launched under Henkell Freixenet’s Mionetto brand. It is a blend of Glera and Pinot Noir, in accordance with the production regulations surrounding Italy’s newly accredited pink fizz. The varieties are vinified separately before blending, according to a press release.
A majority of Prosecco DOC members backed the proposal to allow producers to make rosé Prosecco last year. This was approved by the Italian government in May.
Pink Prosecco could boost sales of the northern Italian sparkling wine by as much as 75 million bottles per year.
In fact, Henkell Freixenet’s CEO, Andreas Brokemper told us last year that rosé Prosecco is just one category the sparkling giant is watching closely.
Prosecco region’s governing body is planning to allow wineries to start selling pink fizz as “rosé Prosecco” from November, a decision Brokemper is something that “fits perfectly” with the brands in Henkell Friexenet’s portfolio, which largely comprises of afrfordable sparkling wines listed in supermarkets such as Tesco and other convenience outlets.
“I would say the one thing we can see right now is that the rose trend, sparkling rose is taking off.”
“It is a trend that fits perfectly into this informal consumption.”
