Majestic gives grape logo a makeover
Keen to go back to its roots, UK wine retailer Majestic has given its historic grape logo a makeover, which will replace its wine glass motif in stores and online.
Evolving its bunch of grapes motif, which served as the retailer’s logo until 2018, the new roundall has been given a contemporary refresh, with the grapes popping more brightly against the grey/green background.
To reflect the diversity of its offering, ‘wine warehouse’ along the bottom of the logo has been replaced with ‘wines, beers, spirits’.
The chosen design, which is currently being rolled out across its stores, won a landslide victory in both a staff and customer vote.
Returning to the grape logo customers know and recognise, the design will replace Majestic’s pink and white wine glass logo, which was introduced in 2018.
The decision to rebrand the original logo was inspired by the results of a series of customer focus groups that found the fuchsia pink tilted wine glass logo to look “cheap” and “not the recognisably the Majestic we know or love”.
“I am delighted to be able to rubber stamp our new logo and begin the process of rolling it out to our stores, new website, vans and chiller bins.
“A rebrand should be part of an evolution – not revolution. We were perhaps guilty of moving too fast and too far away from what our customers recognised and loved about our old look,” Majestic’s CEO, John Colley, said of the redesign.
“I’m particularly excited to see the new logo on our two new stores in Henley and Beckenham opening later this year. It’s an exciting new identity as we develop our next chapter,” he added. The logo will appear on Majestic’s new website, set to launch in mid-October.
Founded in 1980, Majestic is the UK’s largest specialist wine retailer, operating a network of over 190 stores nationwide, along with two in France, and boasting a range of over 1,100 wines, beers and spirits with no minimum spend.
Last December, the retailer completed the £95m sale of its business to US investment firm Fortress Investment Group, based in New York.
