Sotheby’s opens bidding on ‘exceptional’ online sale

Auction house Sotheby’s has opened bidding to an online sale featuring wines from a private collection, chock full of blue chip Bordeaux and Burgundy spanning multiple decades and formats.

Bidding on the ‘Vine I A Gourmet’s Classic Collection’ opened yesterday (19 August) and will run until 25 August.

The collection features a raft of extremely sought-after and collectable wines, with the consignment of first growths alone spanning five decades, with a particular emphasis on Mouton Rothschild, and with vintages of 1980s and 1990s Domaine de la Romanée-Conti in magnums and Jeroboams.

In total the collection comprises 362 lots with a pre-sale low estimate of £1.2 million.

Frédéric Guyot du Repaire, director, Sotheby’s Wine, commented: “It is always a great pleasure to present for sale a private wine collection that will bring much happiness to wine lovers around the world. In superb condition, these wines were purchased on first release and have never been moved. The range of vintages across Bordeaux and Burgundy, and the quantity of super-sized bottles, are a dream combination for collectors with classical tastes.”
