La Grace Dieu des Prieurs reveals artist labels for 2018 vintage
Saint-Emilion grand cru estate, Chateau La Grace Dieu des Prieurs, has revealed which paintings from the Art Russe Foundation will adorn the labels of its 2018 vintage.
Each year the château selects a dozen artworks from the Art Russe collection to be used on its labels, as part of a partnership with the foundation.
The 2018 vintage will feature works by a number of prominent Russian and Soviet artists, including; Arkady Plastov, Aristarkh Lentulov, Tatiana Yablonskaya, Tair Salakhov, Pyotr Ossovsky, Viktor Ivanov, Nikolai Baskakov, Alexander Gerasimov, Nikolai Fechin and the Tkachev brothers.
In addition to the 12 paintings that feature on the standard 75cl bottles, the estate also releases a limited edition magnum with its own artist label.
The 2018 magnum features an image of the bronze sculpture Uzbek Woman with a Jug by celebrated Soviet sculptor Vera Mukhina.
The works of Nikolai Fechin have featured on every vintage of Chateau La Grace Dieu des Prieurs.
Reminiscent of Impressionist canvases and painted with Fechin’s trademark broad brush strokes, Taos Girl with Sunflowers dates back to the artist’s US period.
Brothers Alexei and Sergei Tkachev were chroniclers of rural life. Their Msta landscape depicts the namesake river and is painted in the Impressionist style.
Nikolai Baskakov’s Milkmaids meanwhile, is a social realist work depicting the women enjoying a moment of rest.
Many of the works explore the theme of rural life, including Botany Lesson by Arkady Plastov and Cucumber Picking by Tatyana Yablonskaya.
