Taisteal Explorer’s Scotch series launches
After the launch of its inaugural single malt Scotch Whisky, Taisteal has introduced a grain and blended whisky under its Explorer’s Scotch Series.
Taisteal leverages the experience of two distillers with over 500 years of combined Scottish heritage. The brand targets a 21st-century experience, forging a gateway to the rich history of premium Scotch whisky in a modern age.
With the name taken from the Gaelic for “journey”, Taisteal invites drinkers to “explore the old world through new eyes” and savour a well-crafted union of timeless heritage without conforming to pre-set rules, diving into the contemporary world in fresh and exciting ways.
Taisteal released the first product – a single malt Scotch – in 2018 and received compliments on its affordable, versatile and exceptional quality.
It is produced at Loch Lomond, one of only four distilleries in Scotland with its own cooperage on-site. It is known for its unique pot stills which have special distillation trays in the neck, allowing for greater contact with the cooling alcohol vapour, thus capturing different flavour nuances.
The result is a single malt with distinctive floral notes, honeyed tones and a touch of peat smoke. The producer states that it can be served neat and also to elevate cocktails. Some of the top mixologists in town, such as Antonio Lai from Quinary, have been inspired to create Taisteal signature serves.
This year, the brand has launched the Explorer’s series, a trio of a single grain, blended whiskies and the existing Explorer’s Malt. The two new additions, the Explorer’s Grain and Explorer’s Blend, are crafted by the award-winning distillers at Angus Dundee.
The distillery’s signature style is achieved thanks to an unusual set up where the lye pipes run upwards at an angle of 15 degrees. With the use of skillful blending techniques, it results in a beautiful flavour profile for the Explorer’s Blend whiskies, with aromas of chocolate and vanilla fudge and baking spices, promising equally rich, balanced and nutty flavours on the palate. The same creativity and ingenuity is used to create the signature flavour that characterises the distiller’s Explorer’s Grain, which intertwines toffee and floral notes that reveal a delicate, silky and fruity palate.
Founder Joe Milner wanted to bridge the gap between quality and value, and change perceptions by “letting the sipper design their own whisky experience, have their own rules and create their own rituals – be it indoors or out in the sun, with mixers or on the rocks.”
The Taisteal Explorer’s range has their own nuanced personalities, which satisfy beginners in search of an approachable introduction to the world of whisky; as well as for connoisseurs who seek a curated expression of Scotch whisky. Taking all the great things about the timeless spirit, the infusion of a hefty dash of versatility makes these drams a new home bar essential.
