Pauillac fifth growth, Château Lynch-Bages, has followed the likes of Cheval Blanc and Mouton Rothschild by significantly dropping the release price of its 2019 vintage.
Lynch-Bages has followed the likes of Cheval Blanc and Mouton in dropping its 2019 release price
As reported by Liv-ex, Lynch-Bages 2019 has been released at €66 per bottle ex-negociant, a decrease of 26.6% on its 2018 opening release price of €90 a bottle.
The wine is being offered by the trade for £790 per case, a drop of 26% on the 2018 price per case of £1,068. Like many châteaux this year, release volumes are down by 20% on last year.
American critic James Suckling gave Lynch-Bages 2019 a 96-97 point score, finding it, “full-bodied with very polished, creamy tannins and lots of intense dark fruit”.
The estate also released the 2019 vintage of its second wine, Echo de Lynch-Bages, this morning at €22.8 per bottle ex-negociant, down 20.8% on the 2018 release price of €28.8.
Also out of the blocks today was fellow fifth growth Haut-Batailley, which was released at €34.8 per bottle ex-negociant, down 21.6% on the 2018 release price of €44.4.
As reported by Liv-ex, the wine is being offered by the international trade at £432 per case, a dip of 16.9% on the last year’s release price.
“Today’s release is coming to the market above a number of older vintages, including the 2015, which is available at £345 per case. However, it is the cheapest of the last three,” Liv-ex said.
Haut-Batailley and Lynch-Bages share an owner in the Cazes family, who bought Haut-Batailley in 2017. The Pauillac estate’s 2016 vintage has yet to be released.
Suckling gave 2019 Haut-Batailley 95-96 points, describing it as, “one of the most structured I have had from here”.
