New BBC cookery show to focus on lockdown dining

A new BBC cookery show hosted daily by Matt Tebbutt and Jack Monroe will advise viewers on how to make a little go a long way during the lockdown.

Known at the Bootstrap Cook, Jack Monroe will host a new cookery show on BBC1 focusing on lockdown dining

As reported by Hot Dinners, the hour-long Daily Kitchen Live will air on BBC One every weekday at 10am for two weeks from Monday 13 April.

Using the same set as Saturday Kitchen, the show will explore how to cook on a budget and how to make a small amount of food go a long way during the lockdown.

Viewers will be able to challenge Tebbutt and Monroe, Ready, Steady, Cook style, to come up with recipes using a few ingredients they have lurking in their cupboards.

Jamie Oliver hosts a similar show on Channel 4 called Keep Cooking and Carry On

A few weeks ago a Twitter storm erupted after news emerged that Jamie Oliver had been commissioned to host a new cooking show on Channel 4 dedicated to lockdown dinners.

Monroe’s Twitter followers leapt to her defence, insisting she deserved to be the face of the show, having made a name for herself via her simple, budget recipes.

Her blog, Cooking on a Bootstrap, focuses on dishes that can be made on a tight budget. The price of each dish appears beside the recipes.

“From Monday 13 April, BBC One launches a brand new show with the very experienced and lovely Matt Tebbutt and me. I’m petrified and thrilled and absolutely hooting with joy,” Monroe tweeted this week.

“This wouldn’t have happened without you all and the absolute stink you kicked up demanding I have a show. So thank you for believing in me, and I look forward to disappointing you in new and myriad ways on a daily basis!”

Jamie Oliver’s show, Keep Cooking and Carry On, focuses on how to make simple dishes from store cupboard staples and freezer favourites.
