Matthiasson Wines joins Nekter
US winery Matthiasson Family Vineyards has announced it has switched its UK importer from Roberson to Nekter Wines.
The move brings Nekter’s US portfolio to 11 producers, alongside four more each from Australia and South Africa.
Based in Napa Valley but part of California’s ‘new wave’, Matthiasson was founded in 2003 by husband and wife team Steve and Jill Klein Matthiasson.
The couple’s ethos is rooted in sustainability and organics and as well as staples such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay, they produce some rarities such as Ribolla Gialla and Refosco as well.
Nekter founder Jon Davey added: “Matthiasson wines are iconic. One of the leading lights of the new wave wine movement in California, championing wines with lower alcohol and a fresher style, their strict ethos and commitment to sustainability make them the perfect fit for Nekter wines.
“It’s an honour to be working with Steve and Jill and the wines they make and we can’t wait to get out there and share their story.”
Steve Matthiasson added: “Jon Davey worked the harvest with us, and when he cheerfully volunteered to dig up a buried pipe at the winery, blisters notwithstanding, we knew we would someday team up in the UK. Wine selling, like wine making, takes hard work and dedication to the craft. Jon has that in spades.”
