La Marca Prosecco donates €50,000 to Treviso hospital
Prosecco producer La Marca has donated €50,000 to its local hospital in Treviso to help medical staff tackle the Covid-19 crisis that is especially severe in this part of northern Italy.
The drinks business was informed this morning of the significant financial support by the sparkling wine producer for its nearest major hospital in the Veneto region, citing the need for “cooperation” to overcome the coronavirus pandemic that has become so bad in the region.
As previously reported by db, Italy was the first European country to be gripped by coronavirus, and has suffered particularly severely in terms of the lives lost to the disease and the livelihoods destroyed too due to the lockdown that’s been in place since 9 March.
La Marca Vini e Spumanti is one of a number of drinks producers and businesses doing all they can to support those affected the most by the spread of the virus, including financial assistance for hospitals and hand-sanitiser production for local committees.
Despite the closure of schools and all “non-essential businesses”, as well as strict rules for Italians wishing to leave their houses, it has still be possible for wine producers to continue to run operations by ensuring any manual labourers work in shifts to avoid human contact.
