US restaurants ordered to close due to Covid-19

US President Donald Trump released coronavirus guidelines for the country yesterday (16 March), urging Americans to avoid eating or drinking at bars, restaurants and food courts.

As reported by Fox News, California governor Gavin Newsom had yet to order bars and restaurants to close as of yesterday, but said restaurants should “focus on takeout for those isolating.” In Los Angeles, mayor Eric Garcetti ordered all bars and restaurants throughout the city to close until 31 March, though delivery would still be available.

Washington governor Jay Inslee said that bars and restaurants would no longer be able to serve in-person patrons, but delivery would still be available. Meanwhile, Denver mayor Michael B. Hancock said that all bars and restaurants would be closed to on-site seating between 17 March and 11 May. Delivery would still be permitted.

In Kentucky, governor Andy Beshear ordered dine-in service at bars and restaurants to end as of 16 March. Delivery options are still allowed. While in Massachusetts, govenor Charlie Baker announced that dining at restaurants and bars would be banned between 17 March and 6 April, but takeaways would still be available.

Michigan governor Gretchen Whitmer announced the temporary closure of all bars and restaurants from 16 March, with delivery will still be available. In New Hampshire, governor Sununu said that bars and restaurants should only serve customers by delivery or drive-thrus.

In Pennsylvania, governor Tom Wolf said all bars and restaurants in would be limited to delivery from 16 March, while in Texas, the city of Dallas announced that all bars, restaurants, and theatres would close, though restaurants will still be able to offer delivery services.
