Moët Hennessy debuts plastic-free cork-clad booth at Vinexpo Paris

Moët Hennessy has debuted a plastic-free, cork-clad stand at Vinexpo Paris that is fully recyclable and “bio-based”.

Opened to visitors yesterday, Vinexpo Paris run from 10-12 February featuring a vast and original eco-booth from luxury drinks group Moët Hennessy that has been created as a launch-pad for a company-led message on sustainable development in wine, Champagne and spirits.

As previously reported by db, this is the “first time” Moët Hennessy has promoted its work to deliver sustainable growth, with the group using the three days of the fair to host “succinct discussions and debates” focused on “transmission of preserved and healthier lands to the next generation.”

The company’s specially-commissioned stand, dubbed ‘the forum’, is described as a ‘cocoon’ of cork, and benefits from the inherent acoustic properties of the natural material that limit noise pollution.

Designed by Jeanne Dumont, an architect at DLPG, the stand features cork and staves to cover and equip the booth, and have been provided by two partners of Moët Hennessy: Amorim and Taransaud respectively.

The stand contains no plastic, or glue with volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and “only materials of great purity”, according to Dumont.

“I am not an ecological purist: I believe in common sense, in the virtues of short circuits and therefore, my preference goes to local materials, pure, saved to avoid waste, and likely to be ultimately re-used, recycled, and valued to escape landfill”, the designer said of the stand.

Guarding the entrance to the booth is one of the group’s specially-commissioned electric tractors used for managing its vineyards in Champagne (pictured below).

Moët Hennessy has confirmed that all the materials that make up the stand will be recycled and get a new life once the show is over.

Finally, commenting today on the novel eco-booth, Carlos De Jesus, who is marketing & communication director of Amorim, said. “It is wonderful to have natural cork’s sustainability credentials showcased with such amazing design. The feedback here in Paris has been nothing short of remarkable.”

Are they using a binder for the agglomerated cork that is not polyuretane glue? if it is polyuretane glue, how the recylce it?.

Saw this at Wine Paris yesterday, the mind boggles. Completely over the top stand the size of a football pitch. Not sure why they shipped in a spray machine to go inside either. Seems a complete waste of resources and money.
