Marco Pierre White launches £7,000 food experience in the Scottish Highlands
Tempestuous chef Marco Pierre White has launched a three-night food experience at Alladale Wilderness Reserve in the Scottish Highlands that costs nearly £7,000 a head.
Three nights at Alladale Wilderness Reserve in the Scottish Highlands with Marco Pierre White will set you back £6,910
As reported by Square Meal, the ‘Spring Gastronomy Experience’ being offered by Satopia Travel will set foodies back £6,910 per person.
In its promotional material for the four-day culinary adventure, Satopia Travel dubs Pierre White “the Godfather of modern British cooking”.
The experience includes meals created by the outspoken chef, a tour around the Alladale Wilderness Reserve, and accommodation in a recently refurbished Victorian manor with Laura Ashley interiors.
As reported by Square Meal, food critic Jay Rayner was quick to poke fun at the pricey trip, joking that interested parties could instead, “bung me a few quid and mistake me for Marco like loads of others do while I knock you up cheese on toast”.
The news prompted a series of tweets criticising the price of the adventure.
“£7,000 for three days – what are they eating? Marco lightly toasted and adorned with edible gold leaf, saffron and caviar?” one disgruntled twitter user wrote.
White was the youngest ever chef to be awarded three Michelin stars, scooping his third at Restaurant Marco Pierre White at the Hyde Park Hotel in 1994 when he was just 33.
Since retiring from the kitchen, White has opened over 40 restaurants in the UK and has become known for his outbursts on everything from English sparkling wine, which he dubbed “a nonsense”, to female chefs, who he criticised for being “too emotional”.
Russell Crowe is set to play Pierre White in a forthcoming biopic about the chef. The actor has also written the script and will be producing the film.
