Jago moves to head up Mayfair gunmaker
Dan Jago, the former CEO of Berry Bros & Rudd, has joined prestigious British gunmaker Purdey as its new CEO.
Although the former Tesco man has left the world of drinks, Purdey is not without its wine links as the brand is owned by the Richemont Group which is owned and run by South Africa’s Rupert family which has the Anthonij Rupert winery, a joint project with the Rothschilds and other drinks interests in the Cape.
Jago, who left BBR in February this year, said he was “very honoured” to be taking up the new role. He takes over from James Horne who was at the helm for five years.
Purdey said in a statement that while, “putting a wine expert in to lead a gun company is an interesting choice,” it also considered it a, “bold move to bring in fresh talent with marketing and sales expertise.”
Prior to his position at BBR, Jago was head of the Beer, Wine and Spirits department at Tesco, and before that, the joint managing director of Bibendum.
As far as I know he was never chairman. MD possibly!
