Hakkasan Group promotes Tobias Brauweiler MS to group sommelier
Hospitality group Hakkasan has appointed Tobias Brauweiler MS as its group sommelier, several months after the departure of its longstanding head of wine, Christine Parkinson.
In his new role, Brauweiler will oversee the wine programmes for the group’s Asian luxury brands including Hakkasan, Yauatcha, Sake no Hana and Ling Ling.
He has previously held roles at Hakkasan including head sommelier of Hakkasan Hanway Place and general manager of HKK, Sake no Hana and Ling Ling Mykonos.
Prior to working for the group, Brauweiler, who became a Master Sommelier in 2015, worked at a number of luxury hotels including Grande Roche in Paarl, Ellenborough Park Cheltenham Spa and The Ritz in London.
Commenting on his new position, Brauweiler said: “I’m thrilled to announce my promotion to group sommelier. The Hakkasan Group operates some of the world’s top fine dining establishments, with incredible venues boasting world class wine selections. I’m so looking forward to building and diversifying the already stellar wine offerings at our restaurants.”
It follows news reported in September that Hakkasan’s longstanding head of wine, Christine Parkinson, had left the restaurant group in a sudden and unexpected move.
Parkinson had worked for Hakkasan since it was founded in 2001.
Established in London, Hakkasan now has 12 locations around the world, including in the US, Middle East, India, Asia and Europe, serving a modern interpretation of Cantonese cuisine.
Named after the successful restaurants, the Hakkasan Group’s portfolio includes its eateries as well as a selection of nightclubs and ‘daylife’ sites such as outdoor Las Vegas pool Wet Republic.
