Christie’s appoints new head of wine in Asia
Auctioneer Christie’s has appointed Michelle Chan as the new head of the wine department in Asia-Pacific.
She replaces Simon Tam who led the department from 2011 until his recent departure from the company.
Chan will lead the team of specialists, seek to expand the auction house’s client base and promote cross-category buying in other departments within art and luxury.
Chan was previously head of sales at Sotheby’s Wine Department and was deeply involved with several of that auctioneer’s blockbuster recent sales in Asia.
Prior to that she worked for over 10 years at Hang Seng bank, specialising in media and investor relations.
Aline Sylla-Walbaum, global managing director, Luxury, commented: “With the aim of solidifying our market position and expanding our wine business in Asia Pacific, we are delighted to have Michelle joining the team with her profound knowledge, rich experience and extensive networks in the field.
“We believe the new curatorial strategies and her approach to the business will fulfill the growing demand for the rarest and finest wines from our clients in the region and beyond.”
