Andrea Mullineux to head up Cape Winemakers Guild
Andrea Mullineux has been appointed as the new chairwoman of the Cape Winemakers Guild.
She takes over from Boela Gerber, cellar master at Groot Constantia and will lead not only a new team but also the project to develop and showcase the rising tide of South African fine wine.
Mullineux herself, and the winery she runs with her husband Chris, has won numerous plaudits for her wines and winemaking skill.
She commented on her appointment: “This is an exciting time for the South African wine industry, with a great amount of international attention being paid to quality and transformation, stimulated by initiatives such as the Cape Winemakers Guild Protégé Programme.
“The Cape Winemakers Guild members are leaders of the South African wine business and I look forward to working with the committee to keep this momentum moving forward while maintaining the ethos of the Guild as their chair.”
Joining Mullineux on the committee are:
- Gordon Newton Johnson as vice chairman
- David Nieuwoudt as treasurer
- Sebastian Beaumont as cellar master
- Carl Schulz as ‘guardian of the guild’
