NFL drinks vendor arrested after charging $724 for two beers

A beer vendor at an NFL game in Miami has been arrested after charging a fan US$724 for two beers on his personal, unauthorised card reader.

As reported by the Miami Herald, Nathaniel Collier, 33, was caught by Miami-Dade for over-charging a fan at a NFL game between the Miami Dolphins and the Los Angeles Chargers at the Hard Rock Stadium.

Collier has been charged with third-degree grand theft and possession of a skimming device, and has been issued with a $10,000 bond.

The police reported that Collier used his own personal card reader, and not one supplied by the stadium, to charge the fan. Shortly after he was charged, the fan received a notification alerting him to transaction, which also displayed the vendor’s name, according to police reports.

Collier was working on behalf of Kentucky-based subcontractor Rocket Man and was fired following his arrest. The victim received a full refund.

In a statement given to the Miami Herald, a spokesperson from Rocket Man said: “As the chosen provider of walking vendors across dozens of stadiums, we take the matter of security extremely seriously, and train and monitor our vendors to safeguard our customers.

“Our onsite supervisor contacted the authorities immediately upon learning of the overcharge on what was Mr. Collier’s unauthorised personal device.”
