Vermouth maker Asterly Bros meets half of crowdfunding target in 24 hours

People have been rushing to hand over money to London-based spirits company Asterly Bros after it launched a crowdfunding campaign yesterday (10 September).

Asterly, which makes amaro and vermouth, has launched a Crowdcube campaign for the development of new products, and to support sales and marketing.

The company set a target of £100,000 (US$123,560), but it has already received 50% of this within 24 hours of the campaign going live.

Its products are currently available in the UK, Hong Kong and Singapore. the company now wants to expand to 20 export markets in five years, including China, Spain and the US.

Brothers Rob and Jim Berry launched Asterley Bros in south London in 2014.

The company, which is currently valued at £1 million, will use the funding to upgrade its facilities and increase production capacity, as well as support the development of new products, Asterly Bros said in a statement.

The brand is available in leading bars including Nightjar, Gibson Bar, Callooh Callay and The Coburg Bar and to buy at Harvey Nichols, Fortnum & Mason, Hedonism Wines and online via The Whisky Exchange.

Asterly is set to launch another Vermouth next month; Schofield’s Dry Vermouth, which uses English wines and grape spirit as a base, combined with 28 botanicals.

The brand also plans to use a portion of funds raised to support new product development in collaboration with leading bartender Joe Schofield, to create a range of approachable, ‘everyday’ vermouths that will encourage more drinkers into this burgeoning category. Schofield won International Bartender of the Year at last year’s Tales of the Cocktail Spirited Awards.

Asterly Bros recently appointed Schofield as the brand’s creative director.

Rob Berry said the team were “overwhelmed by the level of interest in our handmade amaro, vermouth and fernet over the last few years.”

“The aperitif category is undergoing a renaissance, fuelled by the UK consumers’ desires for all things negroni and spritz, so this is perfect time for us to expand our production and offering.”
