The Global Masters Wine of the Week: Château Minuty Rose et Or

Every week, we select a wine that picked up either a Gold or Master from our competition series, and tell you why the judges loved it. Enter the Global Masters, and this could be your wine.

One key trend that has emerged forcefully in the world of refreshing drinks this decade is the rise of Provençal rosé, and with that, the arrival of the top-end pink wine sector. Spearheading the latter movement has been Château d’Esclans, specifically with its barrel-fermented rosés, above all the £100 Garrus – a rich, creamy style of pink wine that’s designed for drinking with food, or indeed, ageing in your cellar.

However, if you are looking for something fine, but more accessibly priced, ready-to-drink, and without the flavour and textural influence that comes from oak, then this Provençal pink called Rosé et Or is a brilliant option.

Picking up the ultimate accolade of Master in this year’s Rosé Masters, this sample was deemed the very best in its class – that is, pink wine priced between £30 and £50 that has not seen any influence from wood during its production.

Fresh, light and lively, it’s a wonderful apertif-style wine, but, using Grenache grapes from old vines at the Château Minuty estate, it has a depth of flavour only seen in the very best pinks from Provence.

In other words, you can expect to taste a touch of ripe fleshy peach, followed by a palate-cleansing citrus sensation, like biting into a slice of wonderfully fresh pink grapefruit.
