The inaugural Wine Pinnacle Awards 2019 to take place in Singapore this October

The Wine Pinnacle Awards Presented by Genting Singapore will take place at Resorts World Sentosa this October, rewarding a number of wines and wine trade figures for excellence in their particular fields.

Wine Pinnacle Awards 2019 Presented by Genting Singapore; is set to be the first-ever nomination-based recognition of the world’s top wines chosen without the need for sample submissions or entry fees. Judged solely on the quality and consistency of the wines, the independent expert jury cast their votes via a secure online ballot earlier this year. The awards, slated to be announced on 10 October at Resorts World Sentosa in Singapore, will recognize 22 wines and 4 talented wine professionals – with an overall “Grand Jury Award” chosen from among the winners.

The award has brought together a panel of over 50 top wine professionals, who work as Masters of Wine, Master Sommeliers, wine influencers and sommeliers from top fine dining restaurants in the United Kingdom, US, Europe and Asia Pacific. For the first time, they could nominate wines of their choice without restrictions. With the nomination process opening up an entire world of wines to be recognised, the results of the inaugural Wine Pinnacle Awards can be said to be representative of the opinions of the world’s leading wine professionals.

The award’s 5-member committee, comprised of internationally renowned wine experts namely; Jeannie Cho Lee MW (Hong Kong), Kenichi Ohashi MW (Japan), Doug Frost MW, MS (US), Oz Clarke (UK) and Andreas Larsson (Sweden), oversee the nomination process and created the diverse award categories which aim to honour a broad spectrum of wines including those which tend to fall under the radar of competitions.

The extensive category list ranges from mature wines that are ready to drink, such as ‘Best 1996 Vintage Bordeaux’ and ‘Best 2002 Vintage Champagne’, to ‘Best Organic/Natural Wine of the Year’ and ‘Best Chinese Red’, as well as discovering ‘hidden treasures’ that are currently under-appreciated or under-valued.

The top five nominees in each category were already announced last month and include a number of distinguished names. In the category of ‘Best 1996 Vintage Bordeaux’, the list at the moment includes 1996 Château Lafite Rothschild, Pauillac, France and 1996 Château Margaux, Margaux, France. The ‘Best Chinese Red’ category – where nominees include Ao Yun, Grace Vineyard, Tasya’s Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, Helan Qing Xue, Jia Bei Lan Dry Red, Silver Heights, Emma’s Reserve and Silver Heights, The Summit – shows an improving standard in the quality of Chinese wines.

“I am delighted to see that the inaugural Wine Pinnacle Awards has recognised an exciting list of top wines from around the world. The results are diverse and encompass major wine regions – from mature fine wines, to new exciting recent releases and hidden treasures; the results highlight the best wines from France, Italy, Australia, USA, China, Spain and South America. Finally, a wine competition with a panel of experienced jury members is awarding the very best wines and wineries based on quality and consistency rather than being restricted by wine submissions!” explained Wine Pinnacle Awards Committee chair and the first Asian Master of Wine, Ms. Jeannie Cho Lee.

The winners will be announced at a Gala Dinner on 10 October 2019 at Resorts World Sentosa in Singapore. An assortment of top-notch wines voted for by the judging panel will be presented at the black-tie event, where luminaries of the wine world from across the globe will be in attendance.

Chef Nicolas Masse

Normandy native Nicolas Masse of two Michelin-starred La Grand’Vigne will helm the 5-course menu, which is going to be paired with wines from Château Smith Haut-Lafitte as well as nominees of the awards.

The Wine Pinnacle Awards Gala Dinner & Awards Ceremony will also kick off The Great Wine & Dine Festival, a 3-day celebration of food and wine. The awards platform marks the debut of Southeast Asia’s first major wine event with aims to generate excitement all round the region and connect oenophiles in the wine community.
