Guns N’ Roses settles lawsuit with US brewery

Rock band Guns N’ Roses has agreed to drop the lawsuit it filed against Colorado’s Oskar Blues Brewery for trademark infringement earlier this year, a court filing has revealed.

As reported by Reuters, the band has settled the case it filed against Oskar Blues on 9 May, in which it claimed the Colorado brewer was selling Guns N’ Roses branded beer and merchandise without its permission.

According to a document filed at the US District Court for the Central District of California on 12 August, the two parties had agreed to settle on 31 July. It noted that both sides are working on a written settlement that would lead to the lawsuit’s dismissal.

Guns N’ Roses had accused the brewer of trademark infringement, dilution and unfair competition after it sold branded products including t-shirts, badges, and stickers. The complaint also stated that Oskar Blues had applied to trademark the Guns N’ Rosé beer in 2018, but had abandoned the application after the band Guns N’ Roses objected.

The beer, a 6% ABV fruit-flavoured ale, was described by Oskar Blues as “sticky prickly pear and floral hibiscus with a subtle hop profile”.

Oskar Blues is part of Canarchy, a group of several breweries, which include Cigar City Brewing, the Perrin Brewing Company, Wasatch and Squatters breweries, that are partially funded by Fireman Capital Partners.

In December last year, the brewer entered the alcoholic sparkling water or seltzer category, with a new alcoholic, fruit-flavoured, sugar-free range called Wild Basin.
