Santa Rita ranked 26 in world’s best vineyards to visit
The Maipo-based estate has been ranked as number 26 among a list of iconic wineries from around the world, standing out for its unique offer of heritage, tradition, culture, gastronomy and world-class wines.
The World’s Best Vineyards list countdown took place on 8 July at London’s Banqueting House, unveiling the most recommended wineries to visit from across the globe.
Initiated by the International Wine Challenge, the list was compiled by nominations from a global academy of voters. 18 Chairs nominated up to 36 judges, who then each voted for the top seven vineyards that they have visited from anywhere in the world.
There were no set criteria by which they made their judgement, it was about the “total experience”.
The votes were then counted, and the sites ranked to establish which are the World’s Best Vineyards to visit.
Argentinian winery Zuccardi Valle de Uco took the top accolade being declared number 1 in the World’s Best Winery ranking, however Chile triumphed overall with eight listings within the top 50, topping Old World stalwart France who had seven.
Viña Santa Rita took 26th place, beating some very illustrious household names including Château Mouton Rothschild, Veuve Cliquot, E. Guigal from France and Vergelegen Estate from South Africa.

“During the past five years, we have been consistently selected as the number one winery to visit in Santiago by TripAdvisor and among the top ten activities in the Chilean capital as a result of our excellent visitor offer that brings together all the history, culture and tradition of Santa Rita in a unique and memorable setting.”
With over 150,000 visitors each season, Santa Rita differentiates itself from the competition on account of its unique tourist offerings.
Declared a Historical Monument in 1972, the heritage complex that has more than 1,500 years of history, including The Casona Doña Paula, an 18th century building which was the scene of significant events during Chile’s Independence. Today, the building houses the celebrated Doña Paula Restaurant, selected as one of the best winery restaurants in the country.
The complex also includes the original cellars of Santa Rita built in traditional Cal y Canto in 1880 and The Hotel Casa Real, a manor house and summer residence of the winery’s founder, built in 1880, surrounded by a 40-hectare park.
This is complemented by the Museo Andino, which displays the ethnographic collection of the Fundación Claro Vial, with more than 3,000 objects of Chilean archaeology and Andean Cultures.
