WOSA launches first South African festival

Wines of South Africa has announced the launch of the UK’s first South African Wine Festival this September.

Beginning on 1 September, the week-long event will combine a mixture of trade and consumer tastings and promotions through the on- and off-trades up and down the country.

The festival will officially begin with WineFest South Africa at The Yard in Shoreditch with food trucks, wine and music.

Other events already slated include a restaurant ‘safari’, taking buyers and sommeliers around London in Series 1 Land Rovers; a winemakers’ braai for media and special tasting and discussion series for independent merchants.

The ‘New Wave South Africa’ importer tasting will also be taking place during the week’s activities on 3 September.

WOSA is encouraging producers, importers, retailers and restaurants to take part and has various materials to support promotions both in-store and online ranging from bunting and temporary tattoos to badges and posters.

Jo Wehring, UK market manager, Wines of South Africa, said: “The South African Wine Festival offers the UK trade a fantastic opportunity to come together and promote South Africa’s wines, widely regarded as the most exciting and dynamic wine producing nations in the world. We anticipate many of our winemakers coming to the UK market during the week, bringing with them the friendly, sunny character of South Africa along with their wonderful wines.”
