Portuguese restaurant Bar Douro moves into the City

Portuguese restaurant and wine bar Bar Douro has announced plans to open a second site in the City this summer.

The expansion will take advantage of the new 1 Finsbury Avenue development at Broadgate, joining retail and other restaurant partners, along with an Everyman Cinema.

It is to be housed in a Grade II-listed building, and will seat a maximum of 44 covers (18x counter dining, 26x table dining).

Aficionados of the original site – opened in London Bridge in November 2016 – will be pleased to see the return of Bar Douro’s signature hand-painted Portuguese ‘azulejos‘ tiles, and the mosaic floor made from hand-cut ‘Calçada Portuguesa’ stone.

The planned Broadgate venue marks the second collaboration between restaurateur Max Graham and Bar Douro head chef Sean Marsh, who will serve a menu of petiscos (snack), pratinhos (small plates) and pratos (large plates), mirroring the culinary offering at the first restaurant.

As before, there’s a keen focus on sharing and family feasting.

“We are hugely excited to be opening a second Bar Douro in Broadgate, continuing our mission to be a platform for Portugal in London, showcasing the very best of Portuguese food and wine,” said Max Graham.

Oenophiles will also be treated to a diverse selection of Portuguese wine styles. According to Graham, he intends to curate a list of Portuguese wines that currently lack representation in the UK, which will be reflected in a neat house selection, and a ‘cellar list’ of fine wines.

Bar Douro City will also host regular wine dinners with an array of acclaimed winemakers, following the success of previous sell-out ‘In Conversation’ wine dinners in Flat Iron Square. The new bar menu will showcase specially imported Portuguese Spirits and Liqueurs as well as a selection of craft beers not currently available in the UK.
