Tio Pepe releases 10th anniversary En Rama
Spanish wine giant González Byass has launched its 2019 Tio Pepe En Rama, marking the Sherry brand’s 10th birthday.
First released in 2009, the 2017 limited edition fino Sherry, like previous en rama releases, is bottled without normal wine clarification and stabilisation processes such as fining or filtration. Instead, en rama Sherries are taken ‘raw’, straight from the middle of the cask during spring when the ‘flor’ yeast is at its thickest.
“We wanted to give Sherry drinkers the chance to try fino Sherry in its purest state, straight from the cask,” said Antonio Flores, Gonzalez Byass’ master blender.
The 2019 Tio Pepe En Rama is a blend taken from 60 casks from González Byass’ bodegas in Jerez.
González Byass is responsible for 10% of the total planted area of the DO Jerez-Xérès-Sherry, and its Sherries are exported to 105 countries worldwide.
Last year, the winery made the Sherry available in magnums for the first time, and has repeated the practice this year, as well as selling it in a traditional 75cl format.
The 75cl bottle will have a RSP of £15.50
