Proceeds from Mouton ‘Versailles cases’ to go to Notre-Dame
Château Mouton Rothschild and the Palace of Versailles have announced that proceeds from the sale of 25 cases of Mouton being sold in London this week will be donated to the repair of Notre-Dame de Paris.
The 25 cases being sold in London on Wednesday 17 April are part of 75 being sold in Hong Kong, London and New York to raise funds for restoration work at the Palace of Versailles but in the wake of Monday’s fire at the cathedral of Notre-Dame the decision has been made to divert the proceeds of the cases in the London sale to the restoration fund of the church instead.
The announcement follows an increasing wave of pledges from across the French wine industry, with François Pinault donating €100 million and Bernard Arnault €200m on Tuesday morning.
This was quickly followed by Château Montrose’s owners, the Bouygues brothers promising €10m and one of France’s major lumber companies who own many cooperages promising renovators the pick of the best trees for new roof beams.
Buyers of the cases in London will still be invited to the gala dinner at Versailles this September alongside the buyers of the Hong Kong and New York cases despite the change in the cause.
