Eater reports that Social Wine & Tapas has been on the market “for a number of months”, and that Atherton is “actively seeking a buyer” for the James Street venue.
The Marylebone restaurant and wine bar has been listed by the Social Company restaurant group with a £135,000 annual rent.
Earlier this month we reported that Atherton is to rebrand his French bistro, Little Social in Mayfair, as No. 5 Social with chef Kostas Papathanasiou at the helm. The new concept, due to open on 8 May, will celebrate British seasonal produce.
It hasn’t been an easy time for Atherton of late. Last July he was forced to close his izakaya-inspired Japanese restaurant Sosharu in Clerkenwell and a month later closed Temple and Sons, his City-based venue within Tower 42.
Amid the closures Atherton announced the opening of Home, a 16-seater chef’s table venue next to his Michelin-starred flagship, Pollen Street Social in Mayfair.
As it stands Atherton currently operates six London restaurants, including Social Eating House in Soho, Berners Tavern inside the London Edition hotel in Fitzrovia, and New York-Italian restaurant, bar and deli Hai Cenato in Victoria.
