Gabriel Meffre highlights sustainable efforts at ProWein
Rhône-based producer Gabriel Meffre has said it intends to use this year’s ProWein to highlight its on-going sustainable and environmentally friendly efforts.
In September last year the winery was recognised as being ‘Exemplary’ in sustainable development after an AFAQ 26000 evaluation, a sticker testifying to which will be placed on every bottle as a result.
Among the new wines being launched at the trade show next week that demonstrate some of the winery’s continued work in this regard are ‘Première Nature’ a sulphur-free cuvée from Gabriel Meffre’s Château Grand Escalion property.
Its Gigondas estate, Domaine de Longue Toque, is also undergoing conversion to organic viticulture.
CEO Etienne Maffre, explained: “Our strategy is to focus our efforts on the long-term rather than yield to fashion trends, which are by definition short-term.
“For example, we are currently working on the the level of sulfites in all our wines. Most of them show levels below the legal minimum in conventional and even organic viticulture. We wish to go further and establish our own level.”
