MMD to showcase new portfolio additions at annual tasting

Maisons Marques et Domaines will hold its annual tasting on 29 January, showcasing over 150 wines from its portfolio including Cristal 2008 and Château Pichon Lalande (2015 and 2006) as well as its new Chablis producer Domaine Billaud-Simon.

Founded in 1986 by Champagne Louis Roederer, MMD manages the sales, distribution and marketing of 30 family-owned brands.

As well as Cristal and Château Pichon Lalande, visitors can try over 150 wines from the MMD portfolio including Castillo Ygay Gran Reserva 2009, Corton Clos des Cortons Faiveley Grand Cru 2012, Siepi 2015 and Millecento Brunello di Montalcino Reserva 2012.

The tasting will also mark the distributor’s first showing of Domaine Billaud-Simon, having taken over as its exclusive distributor on 1 January 2019.

MMD has distributed Faiveley, which has been the owner of Billaud-Simon since 2014, for the last 20 years. Billaud-Simon will be presented at the tasting by head winemaker, Olivier Bailly.

It will also be the first time that MMD has exhibited the full range from Delas Frères, which it added in March 2018, and the new “De Bvris” single vineyard Amarone from Tommasi Viticoltori.

The tasting will also include masterclasses by Pio Cesare and Delas Frères with a special tasting of the yet-to-be-released single vineyard wines from both producers.

There will also be a blind tasting competition with the chance to win a mixed case of Champagne Louis Roederer.

Richard Billett, managing director of MMD, said: “We are always extremely pleased to see so many of our trade customers, long-standing as well as new, together with our friends from the press at the MMD Annual Portfolio Tasting. Heralding the start of the year for us at MMD, it is always a great opportunity to showcase new wines and vintages and this year, in particular, new producers as we welcome Delas Frères from the Rhône and Domaine Billaud-Simon from Chablis into the portfolio.

“It is also a moment for our principals, producers and customers to reconnect, reflect on the previous year and look forward to what the new year may bring. While the market in 2019 will no doubt prove to be unpredictable, we are confident that we are well positioned to respond to the challenges and the opportunities that lie ahead.”

The tasting is open to both the trade and press.
