London to gain new avant garde Portuguese restaurant
A new restaurant helmed by ex-Portland chef João Ferreira Pinto and sommelier Carolina W Seibel will open in Stoke Newington this week, serving up a menu of modern European plates with an emphasis on Portugal.
Celeriac vichyssoise with frozen grapes
Moio will open at 188 Stoke Newington High Street on 10 January, and is a collaboration between the chef and sommelier, who most recently worked together at the Michelin-starred Portland restaurant.
It’s named after an old Portuguese unit of measurement used in the salt trade between Portugal and Sweden, a nod to the homelands of Ferreira Pinto and Seibel.
Prospective diners can expect a modern European menu with a big focus on sharing plates and wine matching, according to Hot Dinners.
The sample menu includes dishes such as: Portuguese Morcella w smoked plum; Homemade cornbread with goat’s butter; Celeriac vichyssoise with frozen grapes; Fois gras terrine, black fig jam, pickled crosnes; Pig trotters fricassee with skinny fries; and Azores pineapple carpaccio with Moscatel and pink pepper sauce.
