Burgundy and Italy lead fine wine in November

Burgundian and Italian labels performed well in November but the benchmark Liv-ex index declined yet again.

The Fine Wine 100 index, which tracks the 100 most widely traded fine labels on the Exchange, closed November 0.18% down from its October level.

Sassicaia was the month’s best-performing label last month, its 2015 vintage seeing its mid-price rise 27% to £1,690 per dozen.

Armand Rousseau’s 2015 Chambertin was up 20% but none of the other top performers (Masseto 2014, Ponsot’s 2015 Clos de la Roche and Domaine de la Romanée-Conti’s 2014 Romanée-Conti) broke into double digit rises – just over 6% for the first two and over 5% for the DRC.

On the downturn meanwhile were a couple of first growths: 2012 Haut-Brion (-4.4%) and 2000 Latour (-5.4%), some Rhône labels; Beaucastel’s 2015 Chateauneuf du Pape (-4.9%) and Chave’s 2015 Hermitage (-5.1%).

The worst performer though was another Italian label, Tignanello’s 2015 which declined 6.5% to a mid price of £735.
