Henkell & Co. Group renamed Henkell Freixenet
German sparkling wine company Henkell & Co. will be known as Henkell Freixenet from January, having finalised its acquisition of Cava producer Freixenet in March.
Henkell & Co. will be known as Henkell Freixenet from January 2019
The group bought 50.7% of Freixenet’s capital for just under €220 million earlier this year, following a long period of negotiation between the two parties.
A new logo will also be introduced for the holding company, formerly known as Henkell & Co., bringing both companies under the same banner.
“The Spanish-German alliance creates the world’s leading sparkling wine group, allowing Henkell and Freixenet to access new markets and distribution channels,” a statement read.
Freixenet is present in 140 countries, known most notably for its Cava, but also owns vineyards and brands in Argentina, Australia, Mexico and Champagne. The Henkell Group meanwhile has a wide portfolio of sparkling wines that includes Mionetto Prosecco.
Adding to the changes at Freixenet, earlier this month, Freixenet UK and Copestick Murray announced they will merge to form one company from January 2019.
The new company will be named Freixenet-Copestick and will be jointly headed by Damian Clarke and Robin Copestick, currently managing directors of Freixenet UK and Copestick-Murray respectively.
The new business will be based in Newbury and an Irish office is planned to capitalise on a growing market in both Northern Ireland and the Republic.
Henkell & Co.’s and Freixenet’s joint operations in the US and the UK will start in 2019 as “Freixenet-Mionetto” and “Freixenet-Copestick”, respectively.
In 2017, Henkell & Co. Group’s revenues amounted to €702 million, while Freixenet S.A generated €535 million in the past financial year.
Together, the two companies employ 4,000 people worldwide.
