Edrington launches limited bottlings in UK

Edrington-Beam Suntory is releasing whiskies from four single casks exclusively in the UK, including whiskies from Highland Park and Bowmore and Maker’s Mark.

The bottles are being released in partnership with The Whisky Shop, two sets are from Highland Park, one from Bowmore and, in a UK first, one set of bottles is from Maker’s Mark’s single cask programme.

The first Highland Park whisky will be exclusively available to members of The Whisky Shop’s ‘W Club’. Aged for 11 years in American oak ex-Sherry cask, just 615 bottles with an ABV of 67% are available at £95 each.

The second Highland Park is exclusive to Loch Fyne Whiskies and is a 15 year old with an ABV of 58% and priced at £115 a bottle.

The Bowmore is a 1989 29 year old single malt, aged in Bourbon cask. Just 173 bottles are being offered for £495 apiece.

Finally, the Maker’s Mark whiskey is from the distillery’s ‘Private Select’ programme. Two hundred and fifty-two bottles are available at £85 each.

Gareth Brown, marketing director, at Edrington-Beam Suntory UK said: “Maker’s Mark, Bowmore and Highland Park are three of the top distilleries in our portfolio, so it’s fantastic to see them offering single cask exclusives here in the UK. It represents an exciting time for us, as the distilleries we work with continue to innovate and offer consumers new and exclusive liquid.”

John Beard, director, The Whisky Shop, added: “We are incredibly proud to work in partnership with Edrington-Beam Suntory UK on this project. Maker’s Mark, Highland Park and Bowmore represent three of the world’s market leading brands and we are excited to bring this unique offering to our consumers and shoppers in the UK.”

With the market for whisky, especially rare and limited edition bottlings, at an all-time high, the attraction of a partnership of this type is obvious.

The price of individual bottles can very quickly escalate from their original retail price once they start to filter out into the secondary market.

One recent bottling by The Macallan, ‘Genesis’, was sold at auction for £4,600 recently, having been bought for £495 originally.
