CIVL Languedoc appoints new president
The interprofession representing the Languedoc has appointed Miren de Lorgeril as its new president – currently the only female president of an interprofession.
A strong advocate of sustainable viticulture, de Lorgeril will seek to support the existing and planned projects the region’s winemakers have to farm in a more environmentally-friendly way.
The Languedoc is one of the biggest regions in Europe and also one of the largest organic regions with 32% of France’s organic vineyards located there.
De Lorgeril said: “I plan to help build on the pioneering work the winemakers of this beautiful region have been developing throughout the years, which has helped give us the high quality wines we are able to offer the world today. Sustainability is going to be at the heart of what we do here, using the savoir-faire and innovative methods of our winemakers, we plan to develop the quality of the AOC and IGP wines of the Languedoc even further.”
One particular development in the region is the creation of the Observatoire du Développement Durable, a sustainable development body, which brings together in one place all of the various sustainability projects the winemakers, producers and co-operatives of the region are running on an interactive digital map.
De Lorgeril continued: “With so many winemakers of the region actively making efforts to become more sustainable, we wanted a space to enable everyone to share their ideas and innovations and also demonstrate all the activity which is taking place.”
