Chef injured while shucking oyster awarded €75k
A head chef working at a restaurant in Dublin has been awarded €75,000 after cutting her hand while shucking an oyster.

The High Court ruled in her favour of Jennifer Donohue, from Kilbarrack in Dublin, after she argued that the accident, which occurred in 2014, could have been prevented if she had been provided with the proper tools.
Donohue, working at Dorans On The Pier in Howth, was opening an oyster with a knife when she sustained a very deep laceration to her left hand, which later required surgery and several weeks in a cast.
She claimed the restaurant had failed to provide her with the proper tools or knives for the task of oyster shucking.
It was further claimed there was a failure to train or supervise adequately or at all the practice of oyster shucking being performed by employees.
Liability was admitted by the restaurant, who was ordered to pay Donohue €75,000 in damages.
