Watch: Fireball launched into the sky after explosion at alcohol factory

A tank at an alcohol factory in Mexico City exploded yesterday shooting a large fireball into the sky, leaving one person injured and a further 2,000 people evacuated from their homes.

A tank at an alcohol factory in the Mexican capital exploded yesterday (22 October) at around 5pm local time, leaving a 65-year-old with burns.

The country’s secretary of civil protection, Fausto Lugo, said that the fire was contained in around two hours.

The explosion occurred on Naranjo Street and Eje 2 Norte, in the Atlampa area of Mexico City.

The cause of the blaze remains unknown and an investigation is underway.
