Fine wine inches along in September

The Liv-ex Fine Wine 100 index nudged along a slight 0.08% in September but with Bordeaux and Burgundy labels to the fore.

After a July dip, the leading index has run flat through August and September and indeed is running flat overall over the course of the year so far.

The best-performing label last month was Domaine de la Romanée-Conti’s 2014 Richebourg, up 13% to £19,920 a case. The same wine was the worst performer last month but its up and down performance suggests a greater deal of volatility as its price rises.

Louis Roederer’s 2009 vintage of Cristal was also on the move, up 12%, as were two vintages of Latour – the 2000 and 2003 which were up 8.9% and 6.8% respectively – with 2009 Lynch Bages up 6%.

Going down meanwhile was a mixed bag including Margaux’s 2015 which wobbled a little and went down 4% to £12,354 a case.

Cristal’s 2008 and Cos d’Estournel’s 2005 both slipped and last month’s top rise, Giacomo Conterno’s Barolo Riserva Monfortino 2010 went down 7%.

The month’s worst performer meanwhile was Domaine Ponsot’s 2015 Clos de la Roche Vieilles Vignes, down 7.6%, which like DRC’s Richebourg is a label seeing a lot of movement at present.
